This workshop explains the essentials for building a district Educational Technology Department. Coachella Valley Unified School District recently completed a 1:1 iPad Mobile Learning Initiative that served over 1,000 staff members and over 21,000 students. Under Dr. Darryl Adams, Michelle Murphy, and the rest of the Educational Technology Department, the Mobile Learning Initiative has been a success as the team continues to focus on helping district staff prepare students for the Common Core State Standards as well as developing 21st Century Skills.
From California to Maine, educators have acknowledged that mobile devices provided to all students and teachers afford users a dynamic, relevant individualized learning opportunity. And yet, few have discussed the real world nuts and bolts process necessary to implement a district wide 1:1 mobile learning initiative from the ground up. This fast paced workshop will provide an overview of the Coachella Valley Unified School District 1:1 Mobile Learning Initiative and the process taken to create an Educational Technology Department that serves the needs of teachers and students within the district. Participants will leave with lessons learned, timelines, staff engagement and training practices, important infrastructure and budgetary considerations when contemplating the development of an Educational Technology Department, as well as critical steps to take when developing and executing a successful voter approved funding mechanism that includes technology.

Participants will receive help answering the following questions?
What are the steps involved? Who are the professionals I need to engage? What credentials should I look for?
How do I to effectively educate my internal and external stakeholders regarding the benefits of 1:1 mobile learning?
How do I establish a culture of engagement and empowerment while asking my staff to revamp their entire curriculum and integrate dynamic mobile learning techniques?
How do I assist district teachers and administrators with using the technology to engage students and effectively meet the demands of the Common Core State Standards?
