Moving Beyond Engagement, Creating Fascination in the Classroom

Engagement is a temporary state of being. Research shows that students are only engaged in the classroom 17% of the time. We must move beyond engagement to creating environments that fascinate students. Students still move from one subject to the next and if they are lucky, eventually find something that interests them. If we are to continue to develop as a nation, our students today need more than that. We must electrify our students. Create a curiosity for learning and help our students develop their own passions. In this way, we open the door for students to the world and only in this way can the teacher truly become a facilitator. For possibly the first time in history we have the technology to make this happen on a large scale. In this session we will explore the concept of Fascinating our students and see real examples of how this is being done at all ages, from kindergarten through high school.
In this session participants will learn how to use technology to move beyond engagement into fascination, creating a passion and curiosity in students for learning. Real life examples of how technology is being integrated into classroom lessons will be presented to demonstrate this concept. In this session you will take home ideas that will immediately help both your tech and teaching staffs. This is a new way of thinking about the use of technology in the learning environment and will cause you to want to rethink your vision for technology.
