Research has documented a 30 million word gap between the children of low-income, poorly educated parents and children from more affluent homes. By the time they reach kindergarten, these children typically score two years behind their more privileged peers on standardized language tests.

The Napa County Office of Education has been providing digital early literacy to our districts since a pilot program in 2011, which we expanded to all families with preschool children in 2014. Statistically significant results on the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test in receptive and expressive language indicate that we can successfully intervene. We will share our program and strategies, which can be replicated in any district.
